3 Ways to Effectively Engage Website and Blog Visitors

In the world of digital marketing, it’s no longer enough to have a well-designed website or blog with some solid evergreen content. The world’s top websites and blogs are the ones that also feature a high level of interactivity and engagement. This is what readers and site visitors want—a personal experience and the feeling of connecting with real people when they visit a website.

The advantages of having engaging content are that it’s going to organically lead to more shares, views and comments. This is the best way to make more money from a site or blog, but how do you create that valuable sense of engagement your audience is looking for?

1. Know Your Audience

This is something essential in every area of marketing. Having an in-depth, comprehensive sense of knowledge about your audience is going to drive your ability to engage with them.

With each bit of content you post on your site, ask yourself who you’re trying to reach, and how that content will add value to their lives. If you can’t definitively answer those questions, you may need to rethink that particular piece of content.

If you have a general idea of who you want your audience to be, but you haven’t honed in on specific characteristics, consider using not only tools like Google Analytics but also doing the legwork by looking at other sites, forums and social media sites your target audience is likely to be visiting and interacting with. You can listen to their conversations and learn how to deliver more engaging content.

2. Focus Your Content on A Particular Subject and Have Passion

Penny stock trading guru Timothy Sykes was recently covered by Forbes for turning his blog into a big business. The way he did this was relatively simple. He posted frequently and kept his content very tailored to his particular subject.

Sykes posts quite often on his blog but told Forbes he doesn’t worry about exhausting the subject because you can never write too frequently about anything as long as you’re sharing your insights, experiences and advice for people who share that interest.

Creating content in a niche you’re passionate about is one of the best ways to remain engaging for an audience over the long-term.

3. Integrate Web Content with Social Media

Having a strong social media voice is crucial to engagement, as is making sure you’re promoting your social media profiles on your blog and vice versa. Whenever you’re creating content for your site or blog, add natural opportunities for visitors to access your social media channels, and do the same on your social profiles.

Social media is also a great place to get readers engaged in creative ways like having polls, surveys and contests. Think about the success of a site like Mashable. Mashable is a news and information site focusing on digital innovation, and it has more than 22 million unique visitors each month. They also have 13 million followers on their social networks, making them one of the most engaged sites in the world. Much of this comes from following the advice above and doing plenty of conversing on social media, as well as cross-channel promotion.

 The Engagement Equation

Engagement, an essential element of successful digital marketing, relies on knowing your audience, providing niche market content that’s powered by a sense of passion, and remembering to create and foster conversations, primarily by making sure you’re integrating web content with your social media channels for maximum impact.
