We all know that the phony calls promising us millions of dollars are a complete hoax. However a modern con has emerged and it’s taking over people’s bank accounts. This popular scam is called “card cracking” and has been emptying out people’s bank accounts faster than a slot machine. What exactly is it? Criminals are depositing fake checks into victim’s bank accounts in exchange for a small cut of illicit profits. Young folk are being lured via online contests, scholarships, & social media campaigns. The victims often give away their banking information and the fraudsters deposit a fake check, then immediately withdraw money from the ATM. What’s new is criminals are now turning to sites like YouTube to brag about their feats. Rapper Kevin Ford “Kevo” is famous for trying to illicit money via social media. (Source CBS News)
Amazon launches their own Uber.. Kind of.
The lucky city of Seattle is the first to have the new Amazon Flex service. This new system pays part-time drivers to deliver Prime members their orders within one hour. The drivers are paid a modest fee of $18 to $25 dollars an hour, and must provide their own vehicle, smartphone, and pass a security background check. Shifts range from two, four, or eight-hours. The service was inspired by companies like Uber, Lyft, and Favor with the tagline, “Deliver when you want, as much as you want.” The timeline for expansion is not yet posted but the next cities inline include Dallas, Manhattan, Austin, Indianapolis, Atlanta, Chicago, Miami, Portland, and Baltimore.
